This Isn’t a Drill: The AI Disruption Is Here

Ride the wave or get crushed by it

we’ve crossed the line where “AI someday” became “AI right now.” The experiment phase is over.. the impact phase has begun. we’re truly living in one of the most thrilling chapter of human history, but if you don’t move fast, history will move on without you.

Corporate expectations have spiked to 3× output with half the headcount. Resumes are aging in dog-years, the skill you mastered in 2023 might already be table stakes or automated. “Good enough” work is getting swallowed by systems that don’t sleep and don’t care about your learning curve.

Last year AI was a party trick, this year it’s the metric for survival as leading AI companies going all out on AI automation. Here are the latest developments:

  • Copyright Collisions: The US Copyright Office suggested AI companies should license training data, a recommendation followed by the dismissal of its head, Shira Perlmutter, sparking debate about influence and fair use.

  • Video Generation Leaps: Google's VEO can create video content, like a mock pharmaceutical ad (my good friend PJ made an excellent job), that rivals human-led productions, signaling massive shifts for creative industries.

  • Job Market Tremors: Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warns of serious, imminent job losses due to AI, particularly in entry-level white-collar roles, stressing our societal unpreparedness.

  • Meta aims to fully automate advertising: A brand could provide a product image and a budget, and Meta's AI would generate the ad, including image, video and text, and then determine user targeting on Instagram and Facebook with budget suggestions

  • Search Under Reconstruction: Google's increasing integration of AI into search results is an earthquake for any business reliant on SEO, fundamentally altering the digital landscape.

  • Scientific breakthrough: artificial blood for all blood groups: Researchers in Japan have developed artificial blood that works for all blood types, lasts two years without refrigeration, and is now in clinical trials. Made from recycled hemoglobin and a protective lipid membrane, it could end blood shortages and redefine emergency care.

This relentless wave of innovation raises pressing questions: Why this invention? Who actually asked for this iteration? What’s the real purpose, beyond the rush to be first? Too often, it feels like progress is driven less by need and more by a race to stake a claim, propelled by powerful players and institutions shaping the narrative.

Yet, whether we agree or not, the trajectory is largely out of our hands. All we can do now is adapt to the world they’re building.

As a general principle of technology, when things are changing quickly, the companies that have the quickest iteration speed and sort of make the cost of making mistakes the lowest and the learning rate the highest, win. And certainly what we're seeing with enterprises and AI is the people that are making the early bets and iterating very quickly are doing much better than the people that are waiting to see how it's all going to shake out.

Sam Altman Snowflake Summit 2025

If you're paying attention, it's clear: how quickly we adapt to these AI technologies isn't just a tech trend, it's becoming our pass to thrive in whatever comes next. This isn't like learning Excel or Photoshop – a one-way skill acquisition. AI is a dynamic conversation. It’s like having an infinitely patient, incredibly knowledgeable tutor available 24/7, ready to iterate and refine ideas with you. Those who learn to "think with" AI are poised to unlock unprecedented levels of learning, creation, and productivity.

we are building a system where you can ride the wave and not get crushed by it. Next week we will reveal more.

ready or not, the game has changed so let’s dive in where we are heading and how to get ready for it.

The Shift: When AI Stopped Being a Toy

The Slightly Scary (But Necessary) Conversation

AI's rise brings intense conversations about disruption, de-skilling, and existential questions.

Dario Amodei’s warnings about societal shake-ups, potentially impacting a large percentage of entry-level white-collar jobs within 1-5 years, are hard to ignore. The sheer speed of AI's progress makes societal adaptation far more challenging than with previous technological waves.

Beyond jobs, critical questions remain:

  • Cognitive Impact: Could over-reliance on AI diminish our critical thinking abilities?

  • Social Interaction: How will human relationships change if we increasingly converse with AI agents?

  • Truth and Trust: As AI-generated content becomes indistinguishable from reality, how do we maintain trust and discern authenticity?

  • Crisis of Meaning: If AI significantly diminishes the role of work as a central pillar of life, how will individuals find fulfillment?

  • Artificial Human Intelligence (AHI): Current AI reflects human perspectives from its training data. The next step, developing "world models" for AI to understand from first principles, could lead to insights beyond our current comprehension.

The overarching sentiment from many experts isn't necessarily fear of "evil AI," but that AI is becoming so incredibly useful that human skills in certain domains might feel redundant. Anthropic researchers believe that even if AI development stopped today, existing technology, properly implemented, could automate most white-collar jobs within five years. This is a massive wake-up call to adapt.

The Good Stuff: Your Brain, Amplified.

Learn how to communicate with AI

Source: Tenor

Think about it. My main use case, and maybe yours too, is just diving headfirst into topics. I want to understand things better, get a truly comprehensive grasp, and build up more general knowledge – whether it's about my own business, the nuts and bolts of AI itself, or heck, quantum physics if I feel like it.

And this is where AI is a total game-changer.

  • No More Skill Ceilings (Almost): Remember feeling like some subjects were just "too hard" or would take years to even scratch the surface of? AI dramatically lowers that barrier. You can ask it to explain complex ideas in simple terms, break down jargon, and give you a guided tour through new domains. Suddenly, areas that felt inaccessible start to open up.

  • Information on Tap, Across Every Domain: Need to understand the supply chain of a niche product? Curious about the latest breakthroughs in biotech? Want to get a handle on historical precedents for a current event? AI can pull information and synthesize it for you from an incredible breadth of sources. It’s like having a universal subject matter expert on call.

  • Knowledge Offloading = Brain Space Unlocked: This is huge. We’ve touched on it, but it’s worth hammering home. When you can offload the mundane stuff, "finding and initially processing" part of learning to an AI, your brain is freed up for the really important stuff: critical thinking and figuring out how to apply that new knowledge. It’s not about replacing your brain, it’s about giving it a turbo-boost.

This isn't just about efficiency, it's about expanding our capacity to learn and comprehend. And that, to me, is where the real magic of these new AI advancements shines. It’s less about specific prompting tricks (though those are useful!) and more about this fundamental shift in how we can acquire and integrate knowledge. Pretty awesome, right?

We've come full circle with prompting.

Initially, many perceived it as a simplistic, almost rudimentary communication channel, perhaps too straightforward to be truly impactful. However, as AI systems have grown in complexity and capability, we've rediscovered the profound leverage that well-crafted prompts provide. This renewed appreciation has spurred the development of numerous advanced prompting techniques, sophisticated methodologies now actively employed by leading AI companies in Silicon Valley and beyond to harness the full potential of these powerful new systems.

This is the art and science of communicating effectively with AI, the very key to unlocking its transformative magic. A fusion of natural language, the precision of coding logic, and the strategic direction you'd give a brilliant yet occasionally literal-minded intern.

As I dag into prompting for Midjourney I want to discover it for LLMs in the future so we can have a comprehensive up to date guide on how to communicate effectively with our AIs.

Why is mastering prompting so crucial?

  1. It’s a Dialogue: Unlike traditional software, AI interaction is a back-and-forth. You prompt, review, provide feedback, and refine, co-creating better outcomes.

  2. You’re the Conductor: You guide this "wild synthetic new life form." Curiosity and a willingness to tinker allow you to steer AI to build amazing things, limited only by your imagination and communication skills.

  3. Beyond Text Generation: Prompting is evolving from asking AI to write emails to directing AI agents to perform tasks. We're even seeing "meta-prompting", instructing an AI on how to prompt itself more effectively or to self-critique. This is where a significant leap in power lies.

Here are some self ask prompting techniques for your AI use and for Agentic AI orchestration:

Techniques to Master Prompting:

The "Self-Ask" Technique (Socratic AI):

Instruct the AI to first consider if it needs to ask itself clarifying questions before answering your main query.

Template:

You MUST break down this task before you answer me.

My Question is:
<INSERT YOUR ACTUAL QUESTION OR TASK HERE>

Step 1 – Do you need to ask yourself any follow-up questions to give the best, most complete answer to my question? Answer Yes or No.

If your answer was Yes, please do the following:
Follow-up Question #1: <AI thinks of a clarifying question for itself>
Answer to Follow-up Question #1: <AI answers its own question>
(Repeat for further follow-up questions if needed)

Step 2 – Now, give me the final output to my original question.
Only use the information from your "Answer to Follow-up Question" lines above.
If you realize you are still missing key information to answer my original question well, please just say "I don't have enough information to answer that fully."

Finally, tell me how confident you are in your answer, from 0 to 100%.

This forces a more thoughtful, layered response.

Meta-Prompting & The Kaizen Philosophy:

Apply the principle of continuous improvement (Kaizen) by teaching the AI how to "think" better for your specific needs. Use meta-prompts to get the AI to explain its reasoning or adhere to specific output formats.

  1. Gold Nuggets on Prompt Design:

    • Define the Role: Tell the AI its persona (e.g., "You are an expert financial analyst").

    • Specify the Task: Clearly state what you want it to DO.

    • Agent Control: For task execution, include approval steps for tool usage.

    • Plan & Structure: Provide an outline or desired structure for the answer.

    • Guide Reasoning: Offer hints on how it should approach your request.

  2. Building Solid "Prompt Architectures" (for scaling):

    • System Prompt: High-level AI persona (e.g., company-wide voice).

    • Developer Prompt: Specific configurations and constraints.

    • User Prompt: End-user interaction. Smart "forking and merging" of these allows flexibility and consistency.

  3. More Quick Tips for Powerful Prompts:

    • Ask for Structured Outputs & Use Evals: Request information in a measurable format. You can't improve what you don't evaluate.

    • Examples are Key: Provide good (and bad) examples to help the AI quickly learn nuances.

    • "Escape Hatches" for Hallucinations: Instruct the AI: "If you don’t know, SAY SO. Don’t invent."

    • Longer Prompts Can Be Better: Include ample detail, context, and feedback.

    • Observe "Thinking" Patterns: Examine the AI's reasoning steps (if available) to spot errors.

    • LLM Rubrics for Evals: Use another LLM with a structured framework to evaluate outputs.

    • Experiment (Jailbreaking/Prompt Injection): Responsibly exploring limits can teach you a lot about AI behavior.

The Real Wake-Up Call

It’s a Mindset Shift

Source: qad.com

Interacting effectively with AI isn't just about learning a new app, it’s about rewiring your brain and adopting a new way of thinking. Forget passive learning. If you truly learn how to "talk" to AI, the AI itself becomes your personal tutor, enabling you to learn almost anything.

Your goal shouldn’t be to memorize "perfect prompts," but to deeply understand how to guide an AI,how it "thinks," how to ask the right questions, and how to iterate.

It's a collaborative dance. Mastering this art of learning with AI is a meta-skill: the skill of learning anything, faster. This crumbles old barriers and allows you to venture into entirely new domains. The MVPs in this new world will be those with insatiable curiosity, a strong sense of taste (to guide AI towards quality), and a relentless willingness to experiment. This shift from passive tool user to active thinking partner is paramount.

The Future: Composition and Critical Thinking

Effective prompting is becoming a new form of literacy. Those who master it will be the composers of this new era, orchestrating AI agents (as Will Depue compared this skill to playing Starcraft or Age of Empires). While AI may eventually become proficient at prompting itself for many tasks, the human touch, the composer, critical thinker, and creative visionary, will remain essential for the foreseeable future.

Final Thoughts: Adapt, Learn, Thrive

We are at a pivotal moment. The warnings from figures like Dario Amodei are not to induce panic, but to galvanize action: wake up, pay attention, and start doing. The AI wave will test us all. The era of slow, steady progress is over, prepare for transformative leaps.

Understanding how to prompt, communicate with these incredible systems, and build solutions with them is your ticket not just to survive, but to ride this wave. Cultivate relentless curiosity and a commitment to never-ending learning.

The future belongs to the open-minded, those who embrace the challenge of learning, and who see this incredible technology not as a threat, but as an unprecedented opportunity to augment our abilities and create a future limited only by our imagination.

So, dive in. Learn to use AI. Get your hands dirty. Adapt. Stay informed. Your ability to "talk" to these systems effectively will define your navigation of what’s coming. And it’s going to be an incredible ride.
